A mediocre game when the server is up

Shadowbane is a unique concept that offers a huge variety of character classes and player vs. player encounters. I cannot recommend this game though for many reasons.

This game is losing it's customer base. Twice in the past few months they've moved my characters to alternate servers as the old servers are shut down and consolidated due to lack of player population. Each time this happens you lose your city and all your posessions except for what your wearing. This can present a problem, especially when you're being moved to a server thats already established and your forced to start over collecting gold and useful items.

The graphics are mediocre and travel within the game world is slow. If you know where to look you can expect to fight other players or monsters for a few minutes every 1-2 hours. The rest of the time is spent travelling, grouping, or waiting for someone or something you need. The fights are very fun when you're able to find them.

The city building interface is unique and fun to play with until your city gets destroyed. Be prepared to spend hundreds of hours building a city that can be destroyed in about 45 minutes. Your city's walls and other defenses will usually get destroyed during off hours when you're not able to defend it and often have no idea which group of players is responsible.

The game servers still crash frequently, sometimes going on a bad streak where it crashes and resets itself every half hour for days. This can be especially troublesome if you're trying to attack or defend a city.
