SEYMOUR DUNCAN SCR-1 COOL RAILS GUITAR BRIDGE PICKUP
If you are unhappy with the sound of your current guitar, you could always trade it in and get a new one that has the sound that you are looking for. That will work, but of course that is going to probably be a costly solution to your problem. But what if on the other hand you really love the feel and the action of your current guitar? The decision to trade in your current guitar and get a new one then becomes a bit more complicated. For one thing, who knows if you are going to find a guitar that feels as comfortable and plays as well as the one you already own. But there is a simple solution to this problem. Just pop out your guitar's old pickups and replace them with a set of different pickups that have the sound that you are looking for. If you are looking for a replacement for your single coil sized bridge pickup, which also happens to have some of the best features of a modern and vintage sound, you may want to check out the Seymour Duncan SCR-1 Cool Rails Bridge Pickup. Read on and see if this pickup might have that special something that you are looking for.
The Seymour Duncan SCR-1 Cool Rails Bridge Pickup has a list price of $109.00, and it can be had from most national musical instrument chain stores and from reliable Internet dealers at a discount for as low as $75.95. The SCR-1 Cool Rails Bridge Pickup is a good choice to replace a traditional single coil pickup, and it has a number of desirable features. For one, most single coil pickups are noisy. That is not the case with the Seymour Duncan SCR-1 Cool Rails Bridge Pickup, as it is not a single coil pickup. It is a humbucking or dual coil pickup, designed to sound like a single coil pickup, but to not have the noise that is associated with a traditional single coil pickup.
The design of the Seymour Duncan SCR-1 Cool Rails Bridge Pickup is similar in design to the ever popular Seymour Duncan Hot Rails Pickup, but it has a cleaner and brighter sound, with a bit more accentuation of the high end. Part of the reason that the Seymour Duncan Cool Rails Bridge Pickup has a bright punchy sound is that it is made with Ceramic magnets instead of Alnico magnets. Why use Ceramic Magnets you might ask? The answer is because Ceramic Magnets tend to boost treble response. Traditional humbucking pickups made with Alnico Magnets will tend to have a silky smooth, creamy distortion when they are cranked up and are overdriving an amp. Alnico Magnets in general, will also effect the tone of a pickup to a greater degree than do Ceramic Magnets. For example, an Alnico II Magnet is sometimes referred to as a "singing magnet," because of the warm singing sustain that it helps a pickup to produce. On the other hand, pickups made with Ceramic Magnets will, in general, tend to have greater clarity when they distort or overdrive an amp, and they will, in general, sound brighter, and crisper than pickups made with Alnico Magnets. I hope that the reader has noticed that I have used the phrase "in general" when discussing certain differences between Alnico and Ceramic Magnets and their sonic properties, as these points are in general true, bit there are always exceptions with different pickup designs.
Well how does the Seymour Duncan SCR-1 Cool Rails Bridge Pickup sound? If you turn up the volume on your amp, and you crank up the SCR-1 Cool Rails Bridge Pickup as well, it will deliver a sound that is aggressive and dominant, which makes it a good choice for heavy metal players. Turn the volume down on your amp, and pull back a bit on the pickup, and the SCR-1 Cool Rails Bridge Pickup can yield a sound that is good for traditional Blues or Classic Rock. This is a very versatile pickup, and one can get a great variety of sounds out of it. If you have a guitar with a Stratocaster type single coil three pickup configuration, and you want to replace the stock pickup with one that has a more aggressive sound, and a wider sonic capability, then the Seymour Duncan SCR-1 Cool Rails Bridge Pickup may be just what you are looking for.
Well I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my review, but now if you will please excuse me, I must get back to my practicing.
