Author's Review
Sex Medusa is literally as titled. A strange and uneven story about a creature that that is snake that can transform into a very sexually attractive woman. The movie tries to work along classic story lines of right versus wrong. There is even some preaching about the dangers of industrialization. I found the movie wholly unoriginal.
This lack of originality is obvious when you start to see parts of other stories and movies pasted into this production. This movie borrows from many movies and there never is a clean storyline to follow. Firstly there is a Doctor Jekyll and Hyde theme that develops with the creature. The creature is evil but has a kinder side which manifests itself when she becomes a companion, of sorts, to a very lonely man. The creature meets this man named Charles who is instantly attracted to her and wants to help her.
Charles is a simple single man who lost his wife (and real love) and has not gotten over the loss He takes the creature in and he gives her a name. (For a moment it was kind of like a dark version of Tom Hanks Splash). And like Tom Hanks in Splash, Charles doesnt know her real background, but incomprehensively wants to help her anyway.
Now a third movie is stolen from, SPECIES! Suddenly the creature has a powerful need to reproduce. And like the alien in SPECIES, she gets extremely frustrated when there are barriers to her getting pregnant. She is angry that Charles, despite her beauty, is unable to have sex with her. So following the SPECIES subplot, she hunts for another potential mate. Eventually she meets Michael who unlike Charles can not provide and shelter her, but is capable as fathering children. She quickly develops an uncaring and mean spirit. She is not what Charles thought she was and the subplot of them having a relationship slowly dies.
Overall the movie is confusing. There is at least one other subplot about the efforts to kills the creature. It starts with a chemical attack in the beginning of the movie from which the creature escapes. Later a character, named Grace, emerges and she tries to develop a poison that will kill the creature. The movie is a jumble of all these subplots and they dont sync up very well. There is lots of nudity and sexual scenes. There is some violence, but the movie is not overly gory. Sex Medusa doesnt have any impressive special effect and the cinematography is average. The voice dubbing is almost as bad as a 1950s Godzilla movie. The dubbing also prevents the audience from determining if this movie has bad actors or a bad script. It is clear that the sex in the title (meaning nudity and adult situations) is the primary device for drawing an audience.
My humble recommendation is this movie is not worth the rental fee. If you are really curious, it might show up on late night cable.
