Author's Review
I saw this movie because I heard that he caught 123 prisoners and did it all by his lonesome. Well, I wasn't disappointed!!!
But, that's not the end, so don't worry!
Here's some of the plot:
A backwood farm boy named Alvin C. York, everyone knew him as a boy that did nothing but cause trouble. From shooting his name into a tree, to drinking in a special bar right over the Tennesee border, he seemed to never have anything better to do.
But, one day, he hears there's a plot of land for sale on the bottom of the hill. His family was owning a piece of top ground, and you got practically half the income from crops on the top as the bottom. So, he sets out to earn $70 in 60 days. Can he do it?
Well, he works himself to the end with only a little left over. He needs just 4 extra days to earn the money. How? by the annual Turkey Shoot! When it comes, he wins the prize! And he's now ready to finally get that bottom piece of land! But, it so happens, that it was thought he couldn't win, so it was sold to someone else.
Well, If you were York, you wouldn't stand it and would fight for it, with fists. But none can have that!
One night as he was at the bar, he decides to go murder the guy who bought the land. In a very harsh thunderstorm, he heads off. But, something happens along the way that makes him realize, God's ways are better and becomes religious. How? Find out yourself by watching it!
After that, he goes and makes amends. Everyone can't believe the change in him!
Then, the war comes. And all are to be enlisted! But, York doesn't want to go as The Book says Thou Shalt Not Kill. So, the pastor helps him try to be no part of it. But, it's no use and he's off to camp.
There, they practice shooting targets. Well, the winner of the Turkey Shoot shows all the men that he has all bull's eye shooting. They want him to be a Sergeant! But, he doesn't want to, but in the end does accept.
Then, it's off to war! Here's where the real story begins! Through machine guns, bombs and gernades, you'll see York get 132 men as prisoners all by himself! But, will he make it out of the war in one piece? Will he get home? Will he be there to accept all the honors? Watch to find out!
I love this movie! No surprise, as I love all classics!
I must recommend this ages 12-13 and up. Why? couple reasons and here they are:
1. Too long for little ones
2. The guns in battle may scare them.
3. They probably wouldn't understand what's going on and find it boring.
Other than that, this film was extremely well done! And the story is amazing as God takes a roughneck into a peaceful loving person, that saves hundreds of lives. This is a must see!
