Product Review

Silver Bullet has served me well!

by   rotwiler ,   Jan 2, 2006

Pros:  Small size, price, indiglo blue warning light, easy to use and nice filtering.

Cons:  Battery pack on windshield mount.

The Bottom Line:  For a budget detector I feel the Sensoro Silver bullet is #1.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

Background:

I have used many radar detectors over the years, all in the $100-$200 range and the Sensoro Silver Bullet has been the best of them all. There wasn't much information about the detector when I bought mine back in 2004, so I decided to try one. I drive a 2002 Z28 and a single speeding ticket could double my insurance, so this is what the Sensoro was purchased for. After using the detector for a year and a half, I am really happy with it.

The Detector:

The silver case on the Sensoro is a nice change from traditional black or silver/black detectors. It is small and fits in nice with my interior and lights up a indiglo blue when alerting you, which makes night time use easier if the stereo is turned up. Like all detectors you get the audio warning too, and the Sensoro is loud enough to hear over a car stereo at normal listening level, but the filtering is so good, I find myself turning on the overhead lights to make sure it is working. The windshield mounting brackets could be changed a little(I had to bend mine), but worked fine. I don't really like the cordless battery holder/windshield mount since it adds more to the compact size and then takes away the benefits of the smaller design. Also, I feel the best results and range are achieved with the detector plugged in, batteries(it takes 2 AA) can go dead/weak. I did try it out cordless and went back to the standard plug after about 2 weeks. A nice thing Sensoro did, was include everything you need to mount and use the Silver Bullet in pretty much any car(coiled and straight cord, velcro and windshield mounts for cordless and corded). I also like that the Silver Bullet is durable and snaps into the windshield mount, so you don't have to remove the mount every time, just the detector. The detector also remembers your settings, so when unplugged or the car is shut off, you don't have to redo everything all over again.

Performance:

I have had great results with the Silver bullet, warns me plenty time in advance and has saved me more times than I can count from getting a possible speeding ticket. Unlike other detectors I have owned, the filtering is great on the Sensoro and there has been only a couple times it went off for no reason. There is a place on the highway I drive every night and every detector I own(Bell and Cobra), go off for about 15 seconds. The Sensoro picks it up also, but only warns me for at most 2 seconds. In my area the local State Patrol headquarters in close and many leave the radar on in the car when they drive. Many times I have been warned and waited to see a police car, after about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile and even around a turn I seen the police car going to opposite direction, so I figure it warned me 1 to 1.5 miles in advance. The Detector picks up signals well from the front and sides of the car and I haven't had many times I could verify for sure if the signal was from behind, so I can't say if the 360 degree protection works. There are also a lot of speed traps set up in my area and it has always warned me in advance. I have come to trust the warnings and double check my speed when the Silver Bullet alerts me. I could go into the specific bands such as laser,x,k,ka, etc, but the real test is saving a costly speeding ticket and so far I am very happy with the Silver Bullet.

What radar/laser bands the Sensoro supports:

The manufacturer claims the silver bullet will pick up all Radar and Laser Bands(X,K,SW,Ka) radar and laser bands with 360ยบ Total Coverage and is also undetectable by VG2.

Final Words:

For under $100 - $150, I feel the Silver Bullet can keep up with the best of them. I seen many mixed reviews and if you notice, either people feel the Sensoro is great or a piece of junk. Might be the quality control isn't the best and some do get bad units, but the one I have is great and I would buy another one if I needed it.
