A good monitor headphone!

Date of Review: Oct 19, 2000

The HD 25 is a supraural closed headphone. It offers a decent amount of isolation - approximately 15dB. Comfort is good with a headband that splits to accommodate any shaped head.(even mine!!!) A single sided 5 ft. cord is very convenient for monitoring or DJ work. The left ear piece rotates off the ear to make listening to what is going on outside of the headphones an easy thing to do. They are well built - durable and sturdy.
The frequency response of the HD25 is 16 - 22kHz. Impedance is 85 ohms with a SPL of 120dB. They are easily driven by portable sources.
Not as accurate as some of the top of the line such as the 580 or 600 it is none the less musical and non fatiguing. A little bit on the bassy side with good mids and highs that are a little recessed. Delivers good dynamics - would be good with rock, dance or techno. They would also make a good but expensive portable pair of phones for travel.
I would not consider these a great value - you pay for what you get but my overall assessment is that they are a good headphone for under $200.
Recommended to those who would use them as monitors or DJing . Not recommended for studio mixing - not neutral enough.
