Great for the price, compact, light, comfortable

Date of Review: May 17, 2006

The Bottom Line:  If you're looking for portable "open" headphones put these on your short list, or just buy them. Good quality, good price.
While these headphones are not flawless they are quite good for the money (under $30). The sound quality is good, far better than many other under $50 headphones I've listened to. Some people say the even sound better than some $200 headphones.

It's important to keep in mind that these are "open" headphones which means they don't significantly block out sound. Sometimes it might be nicer to have the closed type of headphone for better isolation, but other times this open design is what you need. For instance, if you want to be able to listen to your surroundings while you're using them, then these are just the ticket.

Each person is different, so this may not be the case for everyone but I find these headphones to be extremely comfortable.

They are quite light and well made. It's a pleasant surprise to find this kind of quality at an affordable price.

The sound is nice and clear without harshness. The bass is surprisingly good for such a small light design which is not an "in the ear" type.

Soon after I got these headphones I had a disappointing experience with them - I tried using them on my desktop PC to play some games like Doom III and other similar games, they sounded terrible, the excessive bass of explosions and even gunshot sounds etc caused high levels of distortion making them sound very bad. I have one good pair of fairly "high end" large, closed, audiophile quality headphones and they don't exhibit this distortion at all. Since then I've been using these (PX100) headphones quite a bit with my notebook PC and haven't had any similar problems. I've watched a lot of movies and played some music. I had all but forgotten the bad FPS game playing experience and have enjoyed these headphones ever since.

There is no such thing as a flawless audio device. I've worked as an audio speaker design engineer, I know this fact very well. Bearing that in mind, I definitely recommend these headphones and would buy them again if I had to make the choice over. They sound good, the price is good, they're light and comfortable, the folding design is nice and I've found they fit nicely in one of my laptop backpack's pockets. Despite being extremely light and compact, I find them to be sufficiently ruggedly well built that I'm confident keeping them in that padded compartment without their hard plastic case.

Oh, I should mention that, they come with a neat hard plastic case which you will probably want to use if you don't have a nice little padded place to keep them like I do.
