Author's Review
I purchased this tv form TigerDirect for $300 (after $50 rebate) and I am very happy with it with a couple of exceptions. The viewing angle is not as good as most new lcd tvs, the picture washes out some when not looking almost directly at the screen, viewing from below the screen causes the picture to become almost a negative image. The QAM tuner works well, but is very slow to set up and after setup the tuner is slow to respond, taking several seconds for the image to appear on screen. QAM tuner is a good feature, especially if you are only getting the basic tier from TWC, as you can get the local hd signals as well as the digital channels that TWC considers basic. Unfortunately, TWC scrambles any digital signals that are not considered basic (even if they are not premium), so to get the good stuff and the "free" hd channels that are not local, you're still gonna have to get a box from TWC. I have seen other reviews complaining about the sound on this set, but I think the sound is very good, the sound does vary in volume from channel to channel but I believe that is a Time Warner issue and not with the set. The set is very attractive and is very inconspicuous. There is one more thing that is kind of an annoyance, but it doesn't have anything to do with the performance of the set, when you turn the set on the word SCEPTRE appears for a few seconds on the screen in giant red letters, I don't know what good purpose this serves since the name of the set is always visible on the bottom of the front anyway. One more point about the tv, the remote looks cheap (and it probably is) but it is very easy to read and has good features and functionality.
