Powerful movie with an excellent ending

Basic Plot Details:
Chris O'Donnell is a high school student at a prestigious private school on full scholarship. Al Pacino is a bitter, blind war veteran living with his sister and her family. The sister and her family are leaving on a trip and they put an advertisement at the prestigious high school for someone to take care of Frank Slade while they're gone. In the meantime, Chris O'Donnell's character witnesses a prank against the dean of the school. The dean knows he saw who did it and basically gives him the weekend to think about it before they convene a conference in front of the entire school Monday. If he rats on the kids that did the prank he saves his rump, if he doesn't he's finished. Over the weekend Colonel Slade has a trip planned in New York to experience life's pleasures, and both characters learn a lot about life. What will Charles decide??? Rent the movie and find out!


First of all, I'm not going to give any of the movie away. I'm assuming if you're reading this you haven't seen the movie.

Let me start by saying this is the role Al Pacino was born to play. I mean to this day when I see Al Pacino on tv I can't see him as anyone other than Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade.

Chris O'Donnell was virtually unknown when this movie came out but you'll see why he was in high demand when you see his performance. Great acting throughout.

Most of the movie involves interaction between Al Pacino and Chris O'Donnell so I won't go into the other characters. I will say though the casting for this movie was excellent.

Now about the movie. It is a drama through and through. Like I wrote in the Cons section. Watch this movie only if you're in a drama mood. To me this movie is one of the best dramas I've ever seen. However, if I want to see some action I'll watch something else.

Yes the movie is kind of long but it's worth it. The interaction between the characters is amazing, encapsulating. You'll find yourself using some of Pacino's lines in everyday life. When this happens don't think you're crazy it's normal.

In response to someone else's review, yes the movie has sad parts but what good drama doesn't? The movie overall is a feel good movie that will tie you to the characters like no movie you've seen. Trust me on this one...you'll fall in love with this movie if you like dramas.
