Author's Review
When Saw 2 was released in theatres, it was undoubtedly to be followed with a sequel that would attempt to grotesquely amuse and disturb audiences in the same fashion. As the weeks passed, everyone was abuzz, ranting about the dramatic torture sequences riddled into Saw 2, and desperately anticipated a sequel that would satisfy their hunger. And last Halloween, their dreams came true.
The infamous Jigsaw has vanished from the eyes of the public. The serial killer who is priority number one, the man whom of which is responsible for multiple homicides, but coincidently he never has actually "killed" anyone, so to speak. He is slowly falling apart from the inside, due to his cancer, so his victims are ordinary people who he deemed unworthy to life the life they have been given, in an act of what appears to be envy.
While city detectives rat race about to locate him, Dr. Lynn Denlon is unaware that she is about to fall victim to another one of his vicious puzzles. After another rigorous day of work in the hospital, Lynn is savagely abducted by Amanda, (For those of you who do not know, Amanda was introduced in the first Saw movie. She was an unwilling subject to his test, and after passing it, becomes slightly attached to Jigsaw, due to the fact he saved her from a life of self mutilation. She now is an aid to Jigsaw, a fact that will be hidden until the second film.)
Regardless, Amanda abducts Lynn and takes her to the warehouse where Jigsaw resides. She is then told that she must keep the rapidly fading Jigsaw alive for as long as it takes for Jeff to complete one of his games. Jeff is Lynn's husband, but this is not revealed until the conclusion. Jeff is told to blindly race through a maze that would test his willingness to aid others, after the tragic loss of his daughter due to the carelessness of a driver, and the driver walked free because the only witness turned her back. Lynn proceeds to operate, with Jigsaws life in peril and in perfect unison with hers. Jeff races to escape and seek revenge on those who have wronged him. He encounters the only witness, the judge who let the driver walk, and ultimately the driver, who he gladly watches die a terrible and agonizing death.
In the end, he encounters his wife Lynn, about to be shot by Amanda. He rushes in, but not before Lynn is shot by Amanda. In a fit of rage, Jeff fires at Amanda, killing her. Jeff runs to the aid of his wife, who is bleeding profusely. He blames her injuries on Jigsaw. Keep in mind, the only reason Lynn is alive is because of Jigsaw's beating heart. The second his heart fails, the shotgun collar attached to Lynn's throat will detonate. This was meant to encourage Lynn to keep Jigsaw alive. Regardless, he kills jigsaw, and ultimately his wife. He is told later by a tape that he, in conclusion, failed his test.
Upon the release, I was as anxious as the devoted and hardcore Saw fans were to see it. The day after Halloween, my mate at the time and I went to see it amongst dozens of other eager patrons. To say the absolute least, we were not disappointed. The mere reactions of the audience were priceless. Some even stood up, filled with disgust. Some even left after the opening scene. The gore was something else.
In conclusion, if you liked the other Saw movies, you will love how it stays true, but you might leave a bit disappointed with the ending, as I was.
