Can You Follow the Rules and Grant Someone the Gift of Life?

Being a fan of the first two movies, I bought SAW III expecting good things and was not disappointed. This movies was well worth the year and a half wait since the last SAW movie. SAW III was the most creative and heart-pounding of the trilogies. Leigh Whannell, who co-wrote the first movie, returned to help work on this movie with original director Darren Lynn Bousman. Both writer and director did a brilliant job of presenting a movie that would not only have a tremdous scare factor, but stayed true to its roots.
Unlike conventional trilogies, SAW III opens up with the unseen ending of what happened to Detective Eric Matthews from SAW II. Although this is only a brief picture of the beginning, it helps set the plot for this movie. After the audience has seen what happened to Detective Matthews (Donnie Walhberg), the camera moves to show a gruesome crime scene of Jigsaw's latest victim. There the audience sees Detective Kerry, still hot on the trial of Jigsaw, examine the crime scene and noting to the other cops that Jigsaw's games are no longer giving people the choice to live or die; he is just killing them.
The movie then moves to show Detective Kerry later that night at home looking over the videotapes that were left at the crime scenes. Before the audience has time to react, the camera moves to show Amanda (Shawnee Smith) kidnapping the Detective and taking her to a warehouse. When Detective Kerry is waking-up, she finds herself tied to a devise that looks like something from a medieval torture chamber. Kerry now realizes that she has been chosen to play Jigsaw's next game. Kerry is tied up with a corset, which is attached through her ribcage. Her game is to retrieve the key that will unlock that corset, from a bottle of acid. She is given only one minute and fails her game, resulting in her ribcage being torn from her body.
The next scene sets up the audience for the rest of the film. The audience sees a couple arguing and not happy in their marriage. Then the movie shows that Dr. Lynn's home life has carried over into her professional career, where Amanda has locked her in the locker room at the hospital the doctor works in. Amanda then fixed a collar around the doctors neck with eight shotgun shells rigged to explode if she moves out of range, or if Jigsaw's heart rate flat-lines.
Dr. Lynn was then forced to perform surgery on Jigsaw to help relieve the tension caused from headaches that his cancer has given him. During the course of the surgery and right after, the audience can see flashbacks of Jigsaw's life bafore and after he found out he had cancer. It seems that this part of the movie was meant to show the audience that this man once had a normal life with a loving wife, and to give insight into the parts of this trilogy that have not been revealed yet.
While Jigsaw and Amanda are playing their game with the doctor, they also have a man trapped in a warehouse facing a series of tests. Unfortunally for the man, he fails his tests and ends up face to face with JIgsaw himself. I won't reveal much more of the ending as to help hace some of the element of surprise I will say that in my opinion, SAW III had the best ending out of the three movies.
