Analysis
I gave each skit a rating out of 5 asterisks. 5 being the best, 1 the worst. The funniest skit without a doubt is the Blue Oyster Cult Skit. Christopher Walken is in this skit and he's what really makes it funny. Will Ferrell plays one of the band members with a torn shirt (so his belly is hanging out). Ferrell plays the cowbell and Walken keeps wanting him to play the cowbell louder. Walken always says, "I gotta have that cowbell!!" It is a funny skit and kind of hard to describe in words, but you will love it. The next best is the Welshley Arms Lovers skit. This skit is with Ferrell, Rachel Dratch, Jimmy Fallon, and Drew Barrymore. Ferrell and Dratch are weird romantic lovers who talk slow, sexy, and weird. The funny thing about this skit is that Ferrell's character is so well played that he actually makes the other actors crack up. That's what makes this skit so funny, because all the performers are cracking up and laughing throughout the skit. Bobby and Marty skit and the Night at the Roxbury round out the best skits in my opinion. Bobby and Marty has Ferrell and his wife playing and singing modern songs with an electric keyboard. Night at the Roxbury skit is funny because Ferrell and Chris Khattan play too losers who fail at everything. And the song "What is Love, Lady don't hurt me, no more" is constantly playing throughout the skit. Jim Carrey is in this skit as a third laughable loser and adds some tremendous laughs.
DVD Extras
The skits dont end there. With the DVD, you also get Ferrell's audition, some appearances on Conan OBrian, and a Dress Rehearsal Skit. All these features are sugar on the topping. His rehearsal for SNL proves why he was chosen to be on the show. The Dress Rehearsal Skit never aired and finds Ferrell playing an "Old Prospector", Gus Chiggins. The setting is in an army briefing room so you can imagine what will happen when an old western prospector is situated with a bunch of soldiers. The Conan OBrien skits feature a Robert Goolay skit and a Patton imitation. The out-takes are hilarious as well.
Conclusion and Recommendation
This DVD is well worth the money because Will Ferrell is a classic comedian who could make anyone laugh. He was awesome on SNL and continues to make me laugh through movies. Long live Ferrell!! Definitely Recommended for any Ferrell fan, SNL fan, or comedy fan. The only skit I wish was included is the office skit, but oh well. Ferrell Rules!!!
