Not Quite the "Best of" You'd Expect

Adam Sandler, love him or hate him, was a big part of what made Saturday Night Live one of the funniest shows on television during his time on it. He had a lot of extremely funny skits and moments on the show, but this "best of" DVD doesn't really include a lot of them. Unfortunately, whoever was put in charge of creating this particular "best of" collection chose to include a lot of his weaker skits, unfunny moments, and some of the same skits that are just recycled from the Chris Farley "best of" DVD.

Personally, I'm an Adam Sandler fan and I always enjoyed watching him on Saturday Night Live because more often than not, he'd really crack me up. So I'm rather disappointed in having to be let down with his "best of" collection. It's not to say that there aren't any of his funniest stuff on here because there's quite a few, such as "Dancing in the Dark", "Hanukkah Song", "Opera Man", and "The Denise Show". I just dislike the fact that so much on this DVD just really isn't funny and I've seen it before elsewhere. They really should have dropped the footage used somewhere else and included a variety of other of his SNL moments.

And, as a sidenote, parents may want to think twice before letting their children watch the "Canteen Boy" skit with Alec Baldwin as the innuendos and skit is rather, well, inappropriate. I suppose that's why this skit has been considered somewhat controversial.

"Saturday Night Live - The Best of Adam Sandler" is 73 minutes long, presented in full-frame format, and contains moments including celebrities such as: Courtney Cox (Arquette), Shannen Doherty, Alec Baldwin, David Duchovny, Michael Keaton, Glenn Close, and Kirstie Alley. The collection is divided up into 20 chapters, listed as follows (the ones with * are also on the Chris Farley DVD):

The "additional footage" (aka Special Features) included on the DVD is one skit of Adam singing a song for Valentine's Day about his "red-hooded sweatshirt" that's not really all that funny and an interview he did on the Conan O'Brien show (kinda sorta funny).

**Final Thoughts**

As an Adam Sandler fan, I'm very disappointed with this "best of" collection because I feel it doesn't really include his best work. Adam generally was very funny on SNL and inexplicably they chose to include his not-so-funny moments on this DVD. I don't know why they felt to include moments they'd already put on Chris Farley's DVD and it's a shame they went this way because there were quite a few other moments on SNL (i.e. when he was included in the game show skits) that should have been on here. I can't honestly recommend this "best of" DVD because it doesn't really live up to the "best of" description on the title.
