Love it, and so does my grandmother!
Date of Review: Mar 1, 2008
The Bottom Line: This is literally one of the best wines out there. Well worth the cost.
For those looking for a review about the 'experience' of this wine, you will have to look elsewhere. This review is all about whether the wine is good ... or not.
Right up front, this wine is nothing short of excellent.
In a general comparison of white wines, regardless of origin, grape, etc. this wine comes out on the top of my list.
I believe that some background on the wine will be helpful in letting the uninitiated anticipate how this wine tastes. As the label states, the wine is Italian and made primarily from Pinot Grigio grapes. In tasting, this was further refined by definite hints of citrus, with strong crisp but not overpowering apple flavor.
The real treasure of this wine is that everyone I have served this wine to, whether new wine drinkers or 'experts', have all loved this wine. It is cool, crisp, and the taste is nothing short of delicious.
The most rounding endorsement I have seen this wine given comes from my grandmother. She has a well established reputation for frugality and simplicity, traits that are no doubt reinforced from her upbringing during the Great Depression.
More than any other person I know, her opinion of anything is formed quite simply by whether or not something is good. You'll never get diplomacy from my grandmother, only a brutally honest opinion. When I first uncorked a chilled bottle of this wine, my grandmother dutifully, and politely tried it. To my, and her, surprise, she quickly drank most of the bottle. This is literally the only wine my grandmother has ever asked, "What was that? And where can I get some more?"
I cannot think of a more ringing endorsement.
My wife and I will go out of our way to recommend this wine, and we regularly gift this wine to hosts. Although we also love trying new wines, this one is definitely one we will keep coming back too.
