My sister got me a used SanDisk CF reader for my birthday. It reads the CF memory card that is in my digital camera.
Normally, I would take pictures, then plug in my A/C adapter to my camera, then plug in the camera upload cable to my serial port on my PC and wait while the images loaded. This took a lot of time. Since I sell on Ebay daily, this task was taking up 10 - 15 minutes per day. Now everything is a whole lot faster.
All that you do is take the memory card out of your camera or other device and slip it in to the reader. Then the pictures are instantly available as a removable drive. When you install the software, it makes a new drive letter for you. You can even rename files, drag and drop files, everything you can do with a normal drive, you can do with this.
The USB installation was simple and the software loaded very quickly. The disk came with drivers for PC's and Mac's. I use mine on a Windows 98 machine. The unit has two lights, one for power-on and one for read/write.
You can buy these very cheaply on auction sites, I think my sister paid less than $10.00 for it used. The new price is approximately $20. -$25. at major online retailers.
The only negative is that the CF cards must go in to the slot with the connector edge facing down. I always forget which way it goes.
I am very happy with this item and it literally saves me 10 minutes a day. I do not know how I ever lived without it.
