Sorry to step on Ipod Nano's toes
Date of Review: May 2, 2008
The Bottom Line: This is an awesome alternative to the Ipod Nano. The sound quality is great, and the feature are abundant.
The E250 is an awesome MP3 player for those that are not caught up in the name-game of Apple.
My drive to work is about 35 minutes each way every day, and after so long, there is only so much talk radio that I can listen to before either driving off the road or driving to the radio station to confront the talk show host.
I decided that I needed another avenue, but I did not want to spend the money on an Ipod. I felt like Ipods locked you into their way of life, so I chose another route.
I looked at a few options, but the Sandisk E250 kept coming up.
Let me tell you, this player runs circles around the Ipod Nano in terms of sound quality, and ease of use. It is so simple because it is just like dropping files onto an external hard drive. I have not yet experienced the "lock up" effect that some reviewers have referred to.
The player has a boatload of options, and although I will probably never use them, it is good to know that they exist. For kicks and grins, I tested all off the features. The FM radio performs well above average, even in a building that has bad reception.
The recorder is so-so. I would not depend on it for a very special recording session that holds much importance.
The video is way above average, and I was shocked to be able to go to the Sandisk site and download the software that actually shrinks the videos down to size so that they may play on the unit.
The styling is nice. It is very sleek, and although it is not as thin as the Nano, it does have a feel of durability, unlike other MP3 players.
I read reviews that complained of the buttons being hard to use. I saw no problem here at all. The buttons are very easy to use, and that blue circle navigation button is really cool!
The sound quality of this unit blows away the Nano because it truly has a representative equalizer in it. The headphone output quality is also above average.
The battery life is exceptional. It will run over ten hours with one charge. The actual time that you get will depend on how much you use the LCD screen.
The LCD screen is bright and clear and the menu is very self explanatory.
If you are an Ipod lover, by all means buy an Ipod, but if you are looking to get great MP3 performance with no drama, you owe this player a look.
