Solid little player
Date of Review: Aug 4, 2008
The Bottom Line: A good little beast.
I'm really glad I got this little guy. With the microSDHC upgrade, you really can't beat it. It's about the size of a travel shampoo bottle and it can hold up to 6GB with a memory card. I have to say, though, that it's a much better player when you upgrade the firmware to the latest that SanDisk has published on their website, and it's a requirement if you put a card in.
I have two complaints about this model.
1) It doesn't come with a clip. So even though it's perfectly designed to slip right into your jeans fifth pocket, you have to either stick it in a regular pocket or wear it on the dippy little neck cord that it comes with if you're not wearing jeans.
2) The shuffle music feature is primitive. I have about 500 songs on mine right now, but I've heard maybe 100 of them multiple times over the course of the last two weeks. And the first one always comes up first.
Other than that, it's fantastic. There is no better player for the price. With that great price and small size, however, comes a trade-off. It can be difficult to master the controls. They require a light touch and some amount of patience. Boot-up takes longer than it should because it analyzes its database everytime you turn it on instead of having it in memory already.
But I've been really happy with it. And as a bonus, the FM receiver works better than any other mini radio I've ever had. Icing on the cake.
It's very sad that SanDisk decided to discontinue this model. I hope I'll be able to replace the lithium-ion battery when it dies in 3-4 years.
