The Bottom Line: Less than $400, stop & stare digital picture and sound. Great find.
Wow...I've never owned a nice TV. Never. I'm the "posada de moda," individual in 07' that's sitting there watching a TV with aluminum foil on the rabbit ears to pick up an extra channel or two.
I still don't have cable, nor satellite, but I do finally have a respectable TV. It's a tube TV often dubbed as a "CRT TV." However the Samsung Slimfit is a third smaller than most of it's CRT counter-parts. It gives a flat-panel feel without the flat LCD price.
Out of the box in measured 23 5/16" in height. 30 3/8" in width and 16 1/2" in depth. According to the instructions it weighs 90.4 lbs.
It's a has a flat black appearance. The sides curve in and hide a majority of the depth on this TV, aiding the "Slim-fit moniker." The speakers run from the top to bottom on each side of the TV. This helps give a "surround," feeling in my opinion.
It has plenty of ports on the back. I'm not an "electronics type," of cat so I'll try to explain. My old TV, when we wanted to use the DVD player, VCR, receiver, or gaming console we would have to install or uninstall all kinds of wires to flip between whatever. Somehow, my wife has the stereo system, PS2, VCR, and DVD player simultaneously hooked up to the TV. No jumping around the back of the TV anymore to monkey with wires. I'm excited.
The picture. It's amazing. This TV cost me a little over $350 with a stop and stare picture. You roll thru Circuit City or Best Buy and see TV's for 2-3-4 thousand dollars. I can't beleive how clear of a picture this TV gives all for only $350. Great, great find.
Let me iterate the fact I'm not the electronically gifted
individual but so far I've found the controls easy enough on the remote to tailor picture just right.
It does play a little ringtone for you when you turn it on or off. Not sure why. It's noted in the manual as an on/off alert.
I really enjoy this TV but it's not a comepletely un-tarnished relationship. I'm on my second one now. My initial "Slim-fit," worked perfectly for about 2-3 hours before I started noticing a green spot on the left side. It wasn't real noticeable unless the background behind was of a light shade. A day later the green spot was more pronounced on the left and a purple spot was coming up on the right. I packed it up and sent it back to Circuit City without a problem. They switched it with another and I've had his 2nd one for almost 7 months without a hitch in it's stride. Knock on the remote...So far so good, but I made sure to purchase the extended warranty (as I do with all electronics,) and have my receipts filed if needed.
Thanks,
Kenny
