Won't play certain discs, support and service terrible
Pros:
Blue light on front is pretty. Forces you outside for exercise by not playing discs.
Cons:
Won't play discs. Technical support unreliable. Picture quality barely acceptable.
The Bottom Line:
Samsung apparently dislikes their customers.

Author's Review
I purchased a BDP1400 last summer, and found out pretty quickly that it wouldn't play certain discs (there were some wasted trips back and forth to Blockbuster, and some 6-year-old tears). My research told me that it was a firmware problem. I downloaded the disc image with the update (I'm pretty tech savvy) and burned it to disc. No luck. Four different attempts later, I decided that it couldn't be that I was screwing it up each time, so I called Samsung for support. I was told that many people have problems with the download and that they would mail me a disc. This was in August. Month passes, no disc. I call again, request again, promises of mailing again, month passes, no disc. I tried to connect the player to the internet directly to download the update, but no luck there either.
Here's where I started to get angry. I was told in December when I called a third time to check on my disc, that the disc wasn't mailed because the firmware image was corrupted, and they hadn't got a new one *since August*. They didn't mail me the disc because they didn't have one. I was offered the email of the office of the president, to whom I sent an email. After going back and forth with them for a week or so, it turns out that they still don't have a firmware fix that's confirmed good. The best part is where, to end the conversation with me, they offered to extend my warranty period by two months, which they emphasised was *solely as a courtesy to me*. You can't make this stuff up!
I gratefully accepted, as long as they could confirm that the warranty covers my smashing the player and posting the video on YouTube. I haven't heard back. I bought another Blu-Ray Player, a Sharp, and I'm happy with it so far. At least it plays discs.
