Not worth buying if it won't play your movies!

The Samsung BD-P1400 is a good quality Blu-Ray DVD player, and replaced the earlier P1000 in my home system. However, imagine my disappointment when I discovered it could not play "Live Free or Die Hard" disk released on 20 November, 2007. And as of Friday, 23 November, there was no mention on the Samsung site of this issue. A call to Customer Service eventually got me the response "...that disk does not have the correct format, you will have to wait for a firmware update." Questions as to when it would be available, or why Samsung does not acknowledge this issue, went unanswered. A similar issue with my P1000 and "Pirates of the Caribbean" is what triggered the replacement in the first place!!
The annoyingly long load times seen on the P1000 are no better on the P1400 - one would think that a vendor would try to improve performance, especially in higher end products. But we are still presented with that boring picture of moving dots with no indication of actual progress. Even a moving bar, a la Windows, would be more informative.
Based on Samsung's slow response to compatibility issues and the fact that this is the second time it has happened with their Blu-Ray product line, I would recommend against buying Samsung.
