Not recommended

I decided a few days ago to replace my two-year-old Epson colour inkjet printer with a colour laser model. It was time to replace the black and one of the colour cartridges anyways, even though they were replaced just a few months ago, and I was finding that the inkjet cartridges are pricey and don't last long.

I found this Samsung on sale at Staples for CDN$170 ($110 off) and I couldn't resist. It was reasonably easy to set up but when I tried to print a test page, it kept insisting that none of the 4 cartridges were installed. I searched the user's guide, the Samsung site, and the Internet for a solution, and discovered that it was a common problem, especially when replacing cartridges. Also, the printer is especially prone to ongoing jamming problems and it was suggested that they are being discounted to clear them off the shelves. Samsung tech support spent five minutes collecting my personal information and as soon as I described the problem, they advised me to take it back to the store. What a waste of time...

I took it back and ordered a Lexmark E120 monochrome laser printer online for under CDN$80. We use this model at my workplace and it is great. It was delivered the next morning and I had it installed and running in 15 minutes. I guess you get what you pay for, and I'll just have to wait until the price of reliable colour laser printers comes down.
