Author's Review
I bought this machine at Staples on 11-12-07 for the GREAT price of $139 with a huge mail-in rebate offer from Staples.
I am a lawyer with a solo practice, and this machine is great. I use the machine solely for faxes (I do real estate law and recive a lot of home inspection reports and other large faxes (30-40 pages), so I couldn't afford to fool around with an inkjet machine.
Set up for faxes is a breeze. I had the machine up and running in under 15 minutes. The instruction book is online at Samsung.com as a PDF file, and is easy to read online whenever you have a question.
The buttons on the machine are well laid out and easy to read. Great ergonomics and design. It holds about 250 sheets of paper, which is great for my office. Comes with a 1/2 size toner that's good for about 1200 pages, then you can buy a full-size replacement that's good for 2500-3000 pages for about $65.
At this price ($139) it makes NO SENSE to even consider an inkjet machine. The cartridge life on an inkjet machine is a joke compared to a laser (150-200 pages on an inkjet vs thousands for a laser toner.)Those inkjet cartriges are 30-40 bucks a pop, too.
Another advatnage of laser is that the faxes/copies come out in one smooth motion and the print quality is superb. Inkjets rattle and bang like crazy and can smudge/smear, and offer low quilaty vs a laser.
Bottom line: This might seem like overkill for the home user, but it will pay for itself many, many times over vs an inkjet.
