I am totally convinced Samsung has one of the best pictures available in flat screen TVs. Matter of fact this TV stood out among several others I was looking at when making my decision which to purchase. Sadly I couldnt hear the speakers due to a busy Wal-Mart sales floor, else I wouldnt have taken this set home.
Take it home I did, set up was very easy as all the necessary connections are placed conveniently at the rear of the TV. Included are inputs for cable, component, HDMI and AV, plus you can also connect a PC. However style points are reduced by just one HDMI connection, a rather important feature in a Hi-Def TV.
Once connected to cable the auto program feature scanned for available channels and then even went so far as to eliminate the scrambled ones, what could be easier. The entire procedure including attaching the stand was over in about 20 minutes.
Using a digital tuner and no cable box produced a variety of viewing options of standard and Hi-Def offerings, one has no idea whats floating around on cable until you go through this procedure.
Pleased as I was to be getting such wonderful reception, I was equally displeased when I tried to adjust speakers that sounded far too much like a cheap clock radio. Despite the included graphic equalizer I still couldnt do anything to improve the sound quality beyond what I would refer to as poor. I thought I could live with it but the sound quickly becomes a source of annoyance. Not that I was expecting exceptional performance, this is way below par for a TV in the $400 plus range.
While Im nitpicking the design of the set leads to a lot of glare. Samsung uses a shiny black surround, undoubtedly to help their product stand out on the sales floor. One of the outstanding features of LCD displays is their ability to absorb rather then reflect light. When the material surrounding the screen acts like a mirror that benefit is substantially reduced.
If this epinion sounds like Im disappointed, youre absolutely correct, the set is being returned.
