Long-term Review

Date of Review:  Jul 24, 2003
The Bottom Line: Go ahead and get one - you will like it, but get the extended warranty - you will need it.
Review: I have had this TV for 2.5 years and here are my long-term impressions:

Picture quality: excellent for the most part. One problem was with standard definition TV (SD) from the cable company. When I first got the TV I used Time Warner cable...

Plasma qualities at half the price.

Date of Review:  Mar 28, 2003
The Bottom Line: While more expensive than the same size CRT projection TV, the advantages make this model attractive without spending plasma prices.
Review: After I made the decision to go to an HDTV set, I spent a lot of time researching the alternatives. The DLP technology involved in this set is what enticed me to buy it. I've been very pleased so far.

DLP is a projection system. Rather...

Wow!

Date of Review:  Apr 6, 2004
The Bottom Line: STUNNING picture, perfect for HD, DVD, Games (doesn't burn in), I REALLY recommend Monster cables to maximize the capabilities.
Review: I have had this for about a month. I calibrated it using the Sound & vision dvd (color, brightness etc). I have played PS2 games through the component input, my dvd is through 1 of the component inputs with monster cable. Let me start by saying that...

Samsung HLN507W

Date of Review:  Sep 19, 2003
The Bottom Line: Given the cost of plazma and the phisical and burn in drawbacks of CRT a good compromise for HDTV
Review: I had decided to wait until the price of Plazma Tvs came down to make the plunge into HDTV. That was until I hapened by a display at Circuit City which inluded the DLP set. Up til this time I hadn't been aware of this technology butg I immediately...

Some Quality Issues

Date of Review:  Aug 29, 2003
The Bottom Line: Bulbs need to be replaced almost every year, so the maintenance cost of this television is high.
Review: Update

Several salespeople have told me that the light source of DLP televisions burns out in about a year, so it wouldn't be smart to buy this.

The problem with DLP

DLP (Digital light processing) is a technology...

Better than plasma and projection

Date of Review:  Apr 7, 2008
The Bottom Line: Less expensive than plasma, at least as good of a picture as plasma or projection, and no burn in worries.
Review: I went in looking at plasma, but they are still way too expensive. I have read so many negative reviews about the Gateway plasma that I passed on it. Plus the 50 inch Gateway is $6999. The Samsung DLP has a clean sharp picture. The store I purchased...

This baby rocks

Date of Review:  Mar 24, 2004
The Bottom Line: Just plain awesome...watch TV or surf the internet or do both at the same time with split screen.
Review: Okay I finally broke down and bought a new TV and I am not regretting it a bit. The TV I selected was the Samsung 50 DLP. After reading several reviews and seeing the TV in person I knew I had to have it. The picture is amazing, best in class to me...

3 TIMES A LOSER !!!

Date of Review:  Aug 29, 2004

Mine "died" after 18 months of service

Date of Review:  Apr 17, 2004
Review: I bought my Samsung HLM507W in November of '02 and until last week, considered it a good buy. It makes a beautiful picture and I like the fact the set weighs only 75 pounds. Last week, the set suddenly started making a high pitched noise, sort of...

Samsung is on a roll

Date of Review:  Aug 31, 2003
The Bottom Line: If you are looking at spending on an LCD or plasma TV, you owe it to yourself to consider Samsung's DSP line.
Review: When I began my quest for a new TV, I decided I wanted something that had a slim design, could operate as a TV and PC monitor, and would let me play games without worrying about burn-in. Given some reservations about longevity of plasma screens, I...
