Author's Review
This is my first foray into HD electronics. I am a novice, I admit. I did my research and due to budget constraints and a need for a large screen DLP was the technology for me.
First - let me say that this type of TV is not really meant for standard viewing. Its really made for HD, Bluray, up convert, gaming etc. You may be disappointed if you just watch standard TV (non HD).
Second - in my research there were a number of reviewers who had many problems with "bowing" where the picture seems to curve at the top or bottom. Also there were users who were disappointed with ghosts or flickering lights. Quite frankly, I don't know what they are talking about, but this TV is flawless from what I've experienced. No blue dots either. The only common thread among all the complaints I saw was that the majority of complaints came from people who bought on-line. I went to a brick and mortar local shop in Minnesota, which probably can't be named.
The Set up
- Easy to set up. I plugged it in, hooked up cable and watched high tech take over. The set up was a little long - 10 minutes, but the TV did all the work. It found all channels - even HD channels over the air (I think). So yes - a little long, but for a lifetime of watching well worth it. Its a little heavy - 75 pounds, and awkward to carry, but its a huge TV. The TV is HDMI ready and has plenty of hook up options in the back of the TV for the many components I have. I have mine hooked up to a receiver so all my components are going to the receiver first, then to the TV via HDMI and Component video cables.
The Picture
- I may be new at this but I watched the Superbowl in HD and I couldn't peel myself from my chair. Jimmy johnson has quite a few wrinkles in HD that I never noticed in standard TV. Colors are fantastic, vivid, sharp. This TV is made for HD sports, games and movies. Anything else is a relatively average picture. I have had no issues with any strange blue dots or white spots or any other picture problems.
The Sound
- As some have stated the sound is lack luster. For a TV of this size, why even have speakers? We only plan to use them occasionally, so I will eventually hook up some sound cables so I can avoid powering up the receiver.
Overall
I would absolutely purchase this TV again if I had to do it all over again.
