Product Review

Not what I expected!

by   ripwild ,   Apr 8, 2006

Pros:  Four wheels, lots of storage, well padded

Cons:  Too big for airline seats, weak handle assembly

The Bottom Line:  A very nice design, excellent material, good looking, but too large and handle broke

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

I was very excited when I found the Samsonite Spinner Mobile Office! It has four wheels and rolls effortlessly. There is plenty of space for my laptop and peripherals. Lots of pockets inside allow for storage of just about anything you want to take along to work or on a business trip.

One thing I would have preferred would be a loose outside pocket that I can slip a water bottle in. I have yet to find any professional rolling computer bag that has that. Seems to be only on backpack varieties.

One of the huge advantages that I saw for this case in my life was that it had a strap across the back of the case that would allow me to slip it over the pull up handle on my suitcase. That way I could slip the computer bag on top of the suitcase handle and have a free hand going through the airport.

Two big detractors for me about this case:

1. Size. While I love the size, you can imagine my supreme disappointment when I found that it doesn't fit under the seat in most airplanes. The only exception was when I was in first class. Otherwise, I had to jockey it and twist it and force it, only to have it stick out too far and I would get yelled at by a flight attendant. Huge setback for me and my new love of this case.

2. Handle. The pull up handle seemed a little wobbly after a few weeks of use. I found that not all of the sections were coming up out of the case at the same time, so there were sections that were not matching as they pulled up. I could usually correct this by lowering the handle back into the case and then pulling the handle back up rather quickly. That worked for a few more weeks until it finally just went haywire. The handle would only pull up about halfway and then the latches wouldn't work and the handle would fall back into the case.

I finally returned the case for store credit (since I had owned it for 9 weeks) and bought a cheaper version by another manufacturer that is smaller. If that one breaks, I don't mind buying another one just like it.

I was disappointed that the Samsonite brand let me down.
