Author's Review
We bought this bath seat for our son when he was 6 months old. He was already sitting up and trying to sit in his baby tub he had at the time! We were having difficulty trying to keep him in the tub so we knew we had to get a bath seat because trying to hold my son in the tub was insanity! He loved the water and it wasn't easy when he was slippery! At the store the Safety First Tubside Bath Seat looked the most promising to me with the experiences we have had with other seats when our daughter was that age.
Description
This seat is a hard plastic, white seat. It says Safety First on the front of it. It has a full back to the seat. The bottom of the seat where my son sat was blue and there was a blue bar in the middle making the leg holes. It has an adjustable arm that attaches to the side of the bathtub and it holds the chair in place. It has a light blue pad on top of the adjustable arm for added comfort when washing my son.
Performance
There wasn't any assembly required for this seat. We just opened the box and pulled it out! The adjustable arm is only adjustable by how tall the sides of your bathtub are. The part that attaches to the side is not. It says on the box that it fits most bathtubs. It fit ours just fine and I also knew other people that have used this seat and no one I knew ever had a problem. But keep in mind that it may not fit.
The bath water should only just barely cover the bottom of the seat. I always put the seat in the tub first so I knew how much water was in there. To attach the adjustable arm, all you need to do is pull it up, turn it around over the side of the tub and slide it down until it rests over the side of the tub. It locks in place on the arm.
The blue part of the seat actually has give to it because when we sat our son in it, his weight would be on the back half, kind of raising the front part of it making the leg holes less big for added safety. The bath seat swivels around so it was easy to turn my son around getting to him everywhere. The swivel seat also locks in place so that he couldn't move around in it himself.
My Opinion
I loved this seat! The adjustable locking arm was a much better comfort to me because we had one of those seats with the suction cups on the bottom for our daughter. It would just slide all over the floor of the bathtub. This seat stayed in place and he couldn't slide anywhere because of the way the bottom of the seat was made. The seat couldn't slide and he couldn't slide out of the seat!
I liked the full back to this seat. Even though my son wanted out of his baby tub, he was leery of the bath seat at first. Of course it didn't take long for him to get used to but the back of the seat gave him more security. Before long, I was being splashed with water as he was having a good time! Even with the full back of the seat, I never had any problems washing him. I also liked the locking function of the swivel seat and the adjustable arm. That was important to me.
The storage was easy too. The adjustable arm folded up. After unlocking it from the side of the bathtub, all you do is lift it all the way up, turning it inwards toward the seat, and then it rests on top of the seat. It sat nicely in the corner of our bathroom and was never in the way. Also before putting the chair away, make sure that all the water has drained from the seat. The bottom of the seat gets full of water. You should also rinse it off after using it as well.
Keep in mind.......
Even though the Safety First Tubside Bath Seat says that it fits most bathtubs, return it if it happens not to fit. The adjustable arm is what keeps the seat in place. No one that I know has had this problem. Unless you have a very large bathtub with really wide sides, chances are this will work for you.
Like always, you should always use only the recommended amount of bath water and temperature. This bath seat should only be used for babies sitting on their own. It is only for support so that they do not slide in the bathtub. If your little one is standing, discontinue using the bath seat. And of course Never Leave Child Alone in the bathtub!
Price/Availability
We bought our son the Safety First Tubside Bath Seat at our local Wal-Mart for about $20.00. Even though it has been a long time since we bought this seat, I have seen it at Wal-Mart recently.
I recommend the Safety First Tubside Bath Seat over all others. I have always had a problem with suction cup seats. This one made my son feel more secure in the tub than other seats would.
