Author's Review

Our Space Saver Fold up Tub was given to us while I was still pregnant with Anson. It seemed great at the time, that is when it didn’t have a baby in it – lots of complaints here – but lets start off with it’s name.

“Space Saver” really? Because it doesn’t save any of my space. It doesn’t fold up much at all, it is actually more of a hassle to fold it up than it is to just flip it over in the big tub, let it dry like that, and work around it when I need a shower. I mean really it isn’t that big to begin with – it is a baby tub. I actually find it funny that they even call it the space saver “fold up” tub. By “folding” it up, you don’t even half the size of it when it isn’t “folded”. Please, if you’re going to buy this tub – don’t buy it to save on space, because, believe me you won’t.

Also, don’t buy it for convenience. Again, it isn’t easy to fold up – and save the, oh lets say 9 inches you would if you did. Just not worth the hassle. Well wait maybe let’s say you’re going out to grandmas house – you think – hmmm…baby might need a bath while we’re there, but oops the tub just won’t quite fit in the trunk with all of the other baby stuff. If only it were like 9 inches shorter – ah yes – it folds up! Then, and only then, would it be worth the hassle to fold it up.

Please, don’t get it for comfort. I think the most annoying think about this “fold up” space saver tub, is that it just isn’t comfortable AT ALL. Ok, Ok, so I haven’t actually sat in it myself, but I think I can tell when my baby just isn’t comfortable. And when his head is leaning against hard blue plastic – I am thinking…”hmmmm, maybe he’s not comfortable”. So, I have a few options.

Sometimes I take a bath towel and put in it the tub before I put him in for a “comfort buffer”. This of course makes it to where I have to wash that towel before I use it, because we all know a completely wet towel dried by hanging in your bathroom isn’t comfortable anymore – and if it is it might stink.

Then again there is the “sponge bear” I’m sure you have seen it around the baby isle. The huge sponge thing you can put baby in for bath time – now that is comfort. I usually purchase one of these and put it in there for him – which works well. However, after like 10 or so uses (even when drying it out completely by hanging it in the bathroom right by the fan) it tends to grow mildew – YUM! – So then I buy another one for 7 bucks (it’s a big sponge! Geez, how much can that cost to make!)

Also – my son is only 3 months old and already seems too big for it! And he isn’t some super huge baby – he’s right around the 50th percentile an average baby indeed. And you can put much water in it – so I put this tub, in my big tub and run water to rinse him off with. Really the water in the tub is only good to keep him warm, I can’t fit him and a cup in the tub.

And can you say – booooring. This tub is just boring. No glitz, no glam. It is very plain. Why no cute froggies or fishies? Why because Safety is first, second third, fourth and fifth – no room for cuteness, or comfort here.

And is it really all that safe? They’re “Safety First” right? I mean, I’ve seen other baby tubs that seem way more safe. This one has no straps, or, like buckles or anything. What makes it more safe than anything else? In fact there isn’t even like a dip in it so baby would stay centered (like with the bear sponge) so he tends to lean to the side of it – doesn’t seem like safety is first.

So yeah I’ll give the “Space Saver Fold up tub” 2 stars, one because I still use it. (Only because I am too cheap to shell out like 15 dollars for a different kind and possibly be even more disappointed) Another one because, yeah, if you “fold it up” you will indeed “Super save” yourself 9 inches.

You can find the Safety 1st Space Saver Fold-Up Tub at amazon.com for only $9.99!! But why? I would take a gamble if I didn’t already have this one, and buy something different for the same price.
