We have this gate at the top of our stairs. We actually installed it in the hallway, a bit before the stairs as was recommended to us. This way, you don't have to fuss with a gate while standing on stairs and if, for some reason, the gate does give out, your child won't go toppling down the stairs.
We chose this one largely due to price. It was one of the few "gateway" style gates in this price range and seemed decent quality. I'm happy to say that we're very pleased with it. It's all-metal construction and has one of the easiest to use handles of all the gates I've tried. It feels very secure and needed minimal screwing into our wall. Installation took only 20 minutes and, despite its sturdy metal design, it's lightweight and swings easily.
We haven't used the motion detector light feature as we never bothered to put batteries in it, but I gather it lights up as you approach, which would be handy for nighttime. We leave the gate open at night, so it hasn't been an issue for us.
