Author's Review
I Loved SSX Tricky on Gamecube, and from what a played of SSX 3 it seemed really cool as well, so I decided it would be a good idea to pick up the latest in the series SSX on Tour.
Graphics:
The graphics seem to have improved slightly over SSX Tricky on the Gamecube, the game has a cool motion blur effect that happens when you use the boost. The entire game just seems a lot more cleaner, ts really hard to describe. You feel like you have more feedom. And the graphics flow nicely and give you a real sense of speed just like SSX Tricky on the Gamecube.
Story:
No story here, just keep trying out events to see how high you can get on the "Tour".
Gameplay:
It feels like an SSX game, thats for sure. Except now you use almost all of the controller. For example, the left thumbstick moves your around in the standard left/right deal , the control pad/D-Pad (whatever people call it nowadays) is used to flip around in midair to preform tricks. And the right thumbstick is known as the "trickstick" and can be used to manipulate your tricks in many ways, such as pushing a certain direction to take off your skis/snowboard. Pushing the stick and pressing down on the stick in the correct order along with pushing other buttons can result in a "monster" trick. I have only gotten this to work a few times though.
Oh yeah, that reminds me, this is the first game in the SSX series where you get a choice between a snowboard and skis. I stuck with the traditional snowboard but messed around with the skis for a bit. According to most people the skis are just like the snowboard, but it felt awkward to me, I dont know, maybe its just me. Either way, its nice to see new things.
Sound:
I've always loved the sound effects in the SSX series, and luckily they havn't changed them. It sounds just like SSX Tricky and SSX 3. They decided to use licensed music for this entry into the series, and I like the majority of it, though some songs I absolutely can't stand. But everyone has different tastes in music right?
Other:
SSX 3 had online play, but I never got the chance to try this out. I also just got the information that SSX 3 is going to be shutting down its online play really soon, sometime in January I believe. I would have liked to seen online play in SSX on Tour, as well as some newer things besides just the option to use skis and another stick to mess around with when in midair. SSX Tricky, SSX 3, and SSX on Tour all feel like the same game except for SSX on Tour being headache-inducing hard in the later potion.
