Compact Work Horse of a Shredder

by   junkyarddawg ,  Nov 25, 2003
Pros: Compact, Shreds paper it extremely small bits and pieces.
Cons: noisy, paper slot is small, will not work without custom waste basket.
The Bottom Line: Fantastic compact shredder. Shreds documents it to fine bits that I have no worries about anyone salvaging. It does exactly what I bought a shredder for and does it well.
Review: When I began looking for a shredder, I had two priorities in mind (1) cross cut shredder (2) no Royal shredders. I had a small royal shredder years ago that on shredded for a short period of time so I though Royal shredders are garbage. However, I ...

Better than a fellows PS55CC

by   richardbill53 ,  Feb 1, 2004
Pros: Compact, easy to use, shreds 4 sheets and under at a good speed, Great PRICE!
Cons: Grunts a 7 sheets, slot on the small side
Review: My old fellows said 3 sheets but no shot! This says 7 sheets, not really but 4 and under works great. Use to feed one check at a time now it is 7 or 8. Works real hard on a credit card, probably too hard, would not recommend it. Wish it would handle ...

Oversold capabilities

by   Halsey ,  Aug 16, 2003
Pros: Fits under my desk. No too loud.
Cons: Jams frequently with 4 or more sheets.
The Bottom Line: I cannot compare this to any other model, but I hope some are better. I may try a basket mounted type thats sits on top.
Review: I have had my 3500 for a year and the gears have stripped. The blades do not work at all. It work ...

Check out other options

by   tomeron ,  Jan 13, 2005
Pros: Price, ease of use.
Cons: It doesn't last very long!
Review: This unit has worked fine over the past couple of years with occasional jams. Royal's limit of 5 sheets at a time should be decreased as the machine ages. It's been jamming lately with 2 pages, and now it's quit working entirely. From the other ...

Nice - when it works

by   Rubatoguy ,  Jan 22, 2004
Pros: Good at making documents unreadable. Integrated basket a nice touch Great warrantee service
Cons: Jams at less than the rated number of sheets. Plastic gears prone to stripping
Review: I've owned two of these and the both provided similar performance. When they are working they do a great job - but can't handle the rated number of sheets of copy machine weight paper. The machine has automatic turn off when the basket is full, a nice ...

Avoid This Model

by   groovygal1 ,  Oct 11, 2004
Pros: Good, uniform cuts. Easy to dispose of without pieces flying everywhere.
Cons: Cannot handle maximum page load. Danger of short life. Difficult customer service reps.
The Bottom Line: Find a different manufacturer. The lower price is no savings when compared to performance, durability and integrity of customer service.
Review: We had two shredders of this type and brand. The first unit burned out nine months after purchase and replaced by Royal. The first unit was repaired under the manufacturer's warranty after three months use and finally quit completely. When I called ...

Awful Shredder

by   kraker ,  Mar 26, 2005
Pros: None
Cons: Breaks easily, jams easily, poor reverse function
Review: I see that I'm not alone in being very disappointed with this shredder. It sounds like I've got the exact same problem reported in other reviews -- the gears appear to be hopelessly stripped after very light usage for a few months. Unfortunately, much ...

The Royal Company should be ashamed !

by   mghjs100 ,  Aug 16, 2005
Pros: Really shreds well when it is working.
Cons: Gears wear out in a year; top heavy; doesn't always auto-stop; difficult to empty.
Review: Very sad to say this is my 'second' Royal Shredder that has had the same problem. I only used it a couple of days each week for about 5 minutes or less at a time . Works great in the first eight to twelve months, but eventually it just wears out. The ...

Gear Stripping Nightmare

by   rvdaba ,  May 11, 2005
Pros: Nice look, not too loud and will periodically shred a few sheets.
Cons: Plastic gears extremely weak and motor insulator disintegration a serious electrocution hazard.
Review: Been through two of these nightmare machines with both stripping various gears, the motor insulator spacer disintegrating (serious electrocution hazard), bent shaft (first one) and other problems. This guy has only seen the lightest of duty and even ...

Orca Without Teeth

by   oasissailor ,  Apr 16, 2004
Pros: It worked well until it broke and I liked the overall design.
Cons: It broke under less than severe usage.
Review: I received the unit as a Christmas gift in 2002. After testing the operation on twenty or thirty sheets of paper, the shredder sat unused for eighteen months. In November of 2003 my wife became concerned about Identity Theft and she decided that ...
