Author's Review
Normally my wife does most of the ironing in the house, but occasionally I try and pick up some of the slack. I noticed that we were using an out of date, old not automatic shut off iron that was both unsafe and unsatisfactory. So I upgraded to this Rowenta Professional DM890 Iron. Easy enough for a guy to use, and the retracting cord makes it a simple "put away" after use item.
Specifications & Features
• 1600 watts of power for strong steam output
• Vertical steam and variable steam functions
• Large 12 1/2-ounce water tank; cord reel storage
• Stainless steel soleplate for effortless glide
• Extra steam holes for better steam distribution
• Automatic Cord Reel
Excellent Features
I've used this iron on several different types of garments, and it always seems to heat up quickly and produce a perfectly pressed finish every time. The Rowenta DM890 Professional Iron does an excellent job of finishing chores with 1,600 watts of power surging through it. One of my personal favorite features is the automatic cord-reel mechanism that retracts the power cord with a touch of the button. In addition it contains comes standard with a large 12.5 oz transparent water tank, which allows the user to see what the water level, along with the added bonus of not running out of water during a job. The sole plate is designed as stainless steel which gives it a smooth glide and resistance to corrosion or tarnishing. Another excellent feature is the anti-drip function which delays the steam production until the iron is at the correct temperature. Also it has an anti-calcium mechanism to prevent lime and scale build up for longer lasting steam performance. The best safety feature would be the 3-way smart auto-off switch that automatically turns itself off if the iron is left 8 minutes vertically, 30 seconds if left horizontally, and best of all 30 seconds if it is tipped over.
Performance
Nothing shy of a triumph, the Rowenta DM890 Professional Iron has accomplished many tasks on different types of clothing effortlessly in our experiences. It has standard settings to work on heavier materials like Linen/Cotton, Medium materials like Wool/Silk, and lighter materials like synthetics. In addition you can damper down the heat to even a lower level if you prefer to make ironing even the most delicate material a breeze. We have used it on several types of materials including shirts, sheets, skirts, and even towels each setting has proved excellent and the material comes out wrinkle free each time.
Design
The iron is quite comfortable to use as the handle is constructed of cushioned grips and it has an anti-skid base plate when holding it vertically in position between uses. The solid steel construction of the face should easily last many years. Furthermore the self cleaning system prevents lime scale and calcium build up, which would hamper the performance of the machine.
Recommendation
Truly seems like a solid investment that should pay for itself over the course of many years of use. Were happy with our purchase and would recommend this product to those looking for a solid performing iron, with little to no maintenance. For about $90 you won't need to replace this for several years.
