Product Review

a major disappointment...

by   jackeeno ,   Sep 6, 2001

Pros:  Safety features (auto shut off when not being used)

Cons:  Constant build-up on sole plate; no master off switch; long term durability suspect

The Bottom Line:  For the price charged, you are better off buying a number of cheaper irons which will probably work just as well

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

Bought this iron a few years ago from a shopping channel at a price I would not normally pay--From the start, there has always been a constant buildup on the stainless steel sole plate which makes ironing difficult if not impossible --this has required the purchase (twice so far) of a Rowenta sole plate cleaning kit at about $20 (inc. shipping) each time-While this cleaning kit works, I often wonder why this iron was not made with a non-stick Teflon coated sole plate--but then they wouldn't be able to sell sole plate cleaning kits, would they? Just recently the unit has started to leak, and it also had an electrical short which blew off the lens to the signal lights and filling it is more difficult than it should be. As per a previous review, contact with Rowenta has brought no satisfaction. When this unit dies, will never let another Rowenta appliance darken my door again
