Product Review

Great While It Lasted: 1 year

by   norowentafan ,   Dec 2, 2006

Pros:  A great iron as long as it lasts.

Cons:  It doesn't last long.

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

This iron is a dream machine for anyone willing to replace it every year. Our iron arrived with no warranty and no instructions in the box (who needs a manual to operate an iron, right?). It lived up to all the rave reviews repeated here until it died at the age of 12 months. A quick check on the Internet showed that it had the typical very "limited" warranty (ship to repair center at your expense, receive a factory rebuilt in return). During the 12 months that I used the iron, it had relatively light usages. I was ironing just for my husband and myself and most of our clothes that require ironing (his shirts, slacks, suits, etc.) go out to the laundry. When it died, it stopped heating. Apparently the "Auto Off" became just "Off". A little shake of the iron would bring it back to life for 10-15 seconds, then off again. Eventually the little shake stopped reviving it at all. Irons usually last nearly a lifetime. Rowenta apparently has either a basic design flaw or poor quality control. I can't recommend any Rowenta iron. In fact, I warn my friends to stay away from them.
