Author's Review
I've owned several Range Rovers over the years and the 2004 Range Rover is the worst car ever built. Not only the worst Rover I've owned - but the worst car hands down! And don't take my word for it ask around - heck even ask the dealer they can't lie either. 2004 was the first year that BMW bought Land Rover and no surprise they dumped them a few years later for a 5 billion dollar loss. This car seems to have a "new" annoying problem every month. I bought the car with 35K miles on it and this is what I've already had happen - the FM radio no longer works, the passenger window will not go down, one time the car would not downshift, oil leaking from engine seal (1,200 dollar fix), brake caliper froze up (1,400 dollar fix), battery died (600 bucks), GPS shuts off at random, clock randomly resets itself, car will start and then shut itself off about once a month, mileage pixel display burnt out pixels. Hopefully you get the point - AND this is in the FIRST YEAR of ownership folks. Additionally ANY trip to the dealer is going to cost you a minimum of 1,000 dollars. Thus I would factor the maintenance for this car is going to run you 3,500 a year. Additionally the front differential is a KNOWN faulty part that will only last about 60K miles (maybe more if you're lucky) and will cost about 3 grand to replace. To put the icing on the cake the car gets about 14 miles per gallon. Now the good news is the car is fantastic in the snow. Probably the BEST car in the snow. The ride is very smooth and the cabin is fairly quiet. The car looks great too (in my opinion) Overall the car is very buggy and has little things that will eventually drive you crazy. For example the seatbelt gets stuck between the door and the seat so you need to teach yourself how to grab the seatbelt to avoid this from happening. The door handles are made of a material that flakes so after about 20K miles the door handles look like junk. The rims also have a great way of absorbing brake dust so they will look crappy after 35K as well. For the money this car cost new, it blows my mind that the car could be this cruddy.
