Niles and Frasier Kill Their Friend for Kicks

Date of Review:  Jul 30, 2001
The Bottom Line: Are you SURE you're the one who could get away with it?
Review: A psycho at work recommended this movie to me--he's a Competition Juggler with several State Championships under his belt, and his a really nice guy, but my only other conversation with him about movies was when he talked about "Full Metal Jacket,"...

Rope (1948) by Hitchcock -- Take one look. Or should I say "Look! One take!"

Date of Review:  Dec 20, 2003
The Bottom Line: Rope is both ambitious and successful as far as I can tell. Who will be the next Hitchcock? Only time will tell...
Review: I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Rope were one of Hitchcock's most intimidating projects. You can dazzle people with birds and baffle them with rear window stalkers, but very few appreciate the vision and talent it takes to manipulate the camera...

Alfred Hitchcock?s Rope (1948)

Date of Review:  Feb 10, 2003
The Bottom Line: Vintage Hitchcock, one of the experimental masterpieces, with a dialog driven plot. His first film in color!
Review: Alfred Hitchcock, the supreme master of the thriller genre, has probably been cussed and discussed more than any film maker in the past century. Now recognized as a genius, he was always one, recognized or not. New editions of this unusual film ,...

Rope - An Overlooked Hitchcock Gem

Date of Review:  Oct 22, 2007
The Bottom Line: Rope was a very entertaining movie that hinted at future Hitchcock movies.
Review: Alfred Hitchcock became known for creating several wonderful, suspenseful movies. I have seen and enjoyed several of them and even own a few. There are still some of his movies that I haven’t seen. I recently watched Rope for the first time.

A Halloween Dialogue with Dostoevsky

Date of Review:  Oct 31, 2002
The Bottom Line: Hitchcock?s best.
Review: While much can be said about the differences between film and literature, the fact remains that the quality of all but the most experimental of films is first and foremost dependent on its screenplay. Even a director like Alfred Hitchcock, who at...

The Talented Mr. Hitchcock

Date of Review:  Apr 5, 2000
Review: I could not help but dig the following things about "Rope":

* Naturally it's pretty neat how the movie is a series of eight-minute takes (the maximum length of a film reel in 1948). But what's even neater is how, in one of the takes,...

Give a Man Enough Rope....

Date of Review:  Mar 21, 2008
The Bottom Line: This movie is a wonderful example of what a suspense film should be.
Review: I must have started with some of Hitchcock's weirder efforts. I almost completely wrote him off after seeing three of his "classics" that I thought were pretty bad. But I kept on and began to find some gems. The latest of those is Rope, a study in...

Something staring someone oh you know who about something something

Date of Review:  Dec 2, 2008
The Bottom Line:

There is not one single thing I can think of to inspire anyone to watch this failed experiment.

Review: Glancing at the reviews I can perhaps expect that what follows will not be particularly popular.

Rope is famous for its one continuous “take.”  Um . . . to quote a professor of mine who loved movies but didn’t care for plays: a play is just...

The Moose Hole - Murder or Justifiable Homicide?

Date of Review:  Mar 30, 2006
The Bottom Line: To this day Rope remains one of director Alfred Hitchcock?s most enduring and innovative motion picture dramas
Review: Alfred Hitchcock's Rope, the first of what would eventually become four collaborative efforts with actor and close friend James Stewart, was based not only on a popular British play, Rope's End (the re-titling given to the play when it came to...
