With a CD cover like that, there's no excuse to not buy "Rooty"...

Date of Review:  Jul 10, 2002
The Bottom Line: Meticulously produced, and far-reaching in influence, "Rooty" is a funky, feel good record that will get your hips twitching, your head nodding and your feet moving.
Review: House has always appealed to me in small doses. This mainly British music form is a specifically formed ?big beat? style of music ? undertaking musical influences from funk, soul, hip-hop, R&b and numerous other styles of music. It?s fun, upbeat...

The House That Jaxx Built

Date of Review:  Oct 1, 2003
The Bottom Line: An interesting range of influences give rise to an interesting and highly listenable album
Review: A munching gorilla set against a background of stars and vivid pink isn't a look that too many music stars would go for on the front of their albums. However, Brixton's Basement Jaxx aren't your orthodox band. Known to their mothers as Simon...

Well, it's better than Britney

Date of Review:  May 14, 2002
The Bottom Line: It's pop. And that means girly vocals. But don't worry - it's good quality pop.
Review: You can tell from the cover that she'll like it. Your little sister, that is. When you're faced with choosing between Britney Spears and Basement Jaxx for a birthday present, Basement Jaxx wins every time. And not just with your nine-year-old...

Sophomore Slump

Date of Review:  Jun 27, 2001
The Bottom Line: An ultimately forgettable record. Not terrible though, and may provide decent background music, but don't expect any more from Basement Jaxx's sophomore effort.
Review: Rooty is British production duo Basement Jaxx's second full-length release, the first being Remedy. What the listener gets with this release is a pop-house style comparable to that of Daft Punk's Discovery album. Basement Jaxx's take on modern house...

Staying Put in the Basement

Date of Review:  Jun 26, 2001
The Bottom Line: This album is one of extremes - the good songs are really good and the bad songs are really bad. This is one time that the bad outweighs the good.
Review: This has to be one of the cheapest albums ever produced. At least Prince's early "experimental" work had its redeeming qualities. Basement Jaxx's version of funk on their sophomore release "Rooty" is extremely garage sounding. "Breakaway" and "SFM"...

Everything Basement Jaxx does is awesome!

Date of Review:  Feb 5, 2004
Review: Don't listen to these pansies who gave this album two stars. They aren't judging it fairly. The whole album is great. When they complain it is too pop. Well I like it a little catchy and fun. Rather than some artsy crap like some other electronic...

Very clever, But not very dancy.

Date of Review:  Feb 16, 2004
Review: If you can call this house then I'll kiss my a*s!
This isn't exactly what I would call a dance floor house album.
It very VERY clever with the little sound bytes and production but is a little silly at times. (well I guess this IS basement...
