Delivering you plain truth, that's all.

Rolling Stone is good at what it does, and that's that. The magazine delivers mostly unbiased, critical reviews of music and movies. In each issue, there is a head article that focuses on the life of a single musician or actor, detailing their normal lives as well as providing insight on their personality.

All of this, I feel is done in an excellent fashion. Rolling Stones does not follow mainstream beliefs. It is very willing to say something sucks, simply because it does. For example in this year's movies, where some have given MI-2 decent reviews, and the recent The Cell, Rolling Stones gets to the nitty gritty of it. It bashes these movies out for being absolute trash for what they're worth and ridicules them for getting such high earnings. They aren't afraid to tell the truth, and let's all face it, MI-2 did suck and we all nonetheless watched it. Because of the controversy it creates, Rolling Stones sometimes gets bad rap. However I feel this is undeserved. It's not like they are simply lashing out recklessly, their articles are well supported.

The other section of Rolling Stones is in the featured artist section. In every issue they focus on a certain artist (musician or actor/actress), which is featured on their cover usually in a provocative outfit. I don't really understand why they do that or where it started, but it's been a constant in their magazine for quite some time and they will continue to do so. The artist section is very intriguing as Rolling Stones actually gets the inner core of every character they feature. Unlike normal media news, such as Extra, there is no waxing of the personality to make them seem better. Rolling Stones delivers the true personality, their feelings, their obsessions, etc., giving you a realistic concept of how these people actually live.

Finally there is the news, where it features some concert information, scandals, and the latest in copyright law (Napster vs. RIAA) since it's been such a hot topic lately.

And when you're through, it's all good. Rolling Stones provides excellent music reviews and guides you well to the best cds, not regarding popularity for its decisions. The artist section is good and reveals a lot of information on their lives. Everything is done with a very critical eye, and a bit of wit, but that's a good thing. I'd recommend this magazine to all media fans. The bright full color giant sized magazine makes an excellent read and provides great photographs as well.
