Author's Review
It is time to write another review on the crap I have in my home and that surrounds me.
I purchased this watch in Zermatt, Switzerland seven years ago when I was vacationing. I paid $2000 for it and thought maybe I could make some money on it. I eventually just kept it and have it to this day.
The watch is solid stainless steel and water resistant to 100 meters. I am a rescue diver so that is deep enough for me. I have gone diving with it and it works fine underwater.
The watch weighs about 8 ounces and is rather heavy but I am not arthritic so I can deal with it. The watch has a second hand (the way it ticks is very smooth) and has a minute, hour, second time zone hand, and a date (which is magnified by a bubble). This is the red hand that is on the front of the watch. The red hand is set to your "home" time zone and when you leave you can adjust the black hour hand very easily unlike, say a Sea-Dweller or Yachtmaster (other models of Rolex watches). The watch comes in a black or white dial (as pictured). I have the white dial and it looks as good as the day I got it. I wear it everyday and it is super reliable. I have to reset the time about every other month as it speeds up a couple of minutes. This could be due to age, though.
The watch is an automatic watch, meaning there is a half weighted pendulum that winds a mainspring. The mainspring then releases this energy through a series of other springs and gears powering the watch. There is a clutch on the mainspring to ensure you do not "overwind" the watch. You can also wind the watch like the old days, but if you wear it every day or every other day you do not need to do so.
I like this watch, as most people do not realize it is a Rolex, but you get appreciation of a fine watch and the joys of ownership. Plus, if you have a kid or grandkid you could hand it down.
The great thing about fine jewelry is that, although you need to take care of it, it looks nice. This watch is one you could wear scuba diving or to a night out on the town.
The watch also comes with a sapphire crystal, which means the front of the face (glass piece you look at) will be highly scratch resistant.
I like the watch and could sell it today for about $3000. New they run about $4275 (I think). The bracelet can be adjusted to any size wrist and the jeweler you purchase it from will do it. I don't know anything about the warranty but I think it comes with a one year warranty. The presentation case is nice too, but I threw it away.
If I were to do it over again, I would buy this watch. I love it and it looks great.
