Author's Review
This is my second slow cooker -my "upgrade" :) Having read the other reviews, I agree, this model tends to run hot, and being that I am in a position to start a meal, and tend to it throughout the day, I am able to prevent much of the burning and overcooking described above. I find that often, I will start out on a higher setting, and a few hours in, switch to low, and then manually switch to warm. I've also not really followed any of the recipes in the book - I tend to "wing it" most times ;)
I like that the cooking bowl is an insert - makes for easy cleaning, and goes right in the dishwasher! It also seems pretty durable - I have a ceramic sink and that insert has been banged around so often - I thought for sure I'd cracked it! So far, it has held up.
I like that the one I got, in particular, came with an insulated bag for travel. I often travel with my crock pot (chicken wing dip!) and this bag comes in very handy. Keeps my items inside warm while we travel, has a strong and sturdy handle, and just makes the whole unit more portable!
If could change anything, it would be to make the cord a little longer, perhaps even retractable. This is also not my "be all end all" slow cooker, I assume I will eventually move on to bigger and better things - while I intend to keep this one at our cabin - I will seek out one with specific temperature settings if possible. I notice some slow cooker recipes specify actual temps, not just high/ low/ med.
All in all, a decent cooker. :)
