I like this machine
Pros:
Cheap, durable, and the texture of ice cream is good.
Cons:
The cover is hard to remove for washing.
The Bottom Line:
Really a good investment.

Author's Review
UPDATE: It is electric. Just stick the tub into freezer for some 12 to 15 hours prior to use. I keep mine in there permanently so that I never have to wait when I get the ice-cream making impulse. Three removable parts (I think). There is the engine, a plastic lid, a plastic paddle and a plastic thingy to connect paddle to engine. And the tub of course.
I have used this ice cream maker for a while and I am happy with the result. i think the issue is that I did not expect the ice cream to be ready after 40 mins. That is, I don't expect it to be a solid mass after 40 mins. In fact, if that's what you are looking for, this is not the machine for you (in fact, I am not aware of other products in the market that will allow this; then I have not done research on the others). What the machine does is beat air into the cream mixture you have put together. With this machine, it will thicken into a mass that is thicker than milk shake. Thickness (or hardness) depends on just how much you put into the container.
What I do is that I allow the mixture to go for some 30 mins, until it looks like the volume has increased rather significantly. Thereafter, I transfer it into a container and chuck the entire concoction into the freezer. It is ready after a few hours. The machine does a very good job of beating air in - and not too much. Naturally, the taste of it depends on the recipe you use.
I keep the container in the freezer at all times (wrapped in a plastic bag) so that I don't have to wait 18 hours for the container to chill.
It is not a quiet machine to be sure, but hey it's cheap and i've used mine for a few years now and made many, many batches of ice cream. So it has given me good value.
