Author's Review
Okay, I have to be honest. I absolutely hate exercising. Part of the problem is that I have *no* time during the day to fit it in. Goes with working full-time outside the home and parenthood. But, looking at the scale and noticing that my clothes just don't seem to fit anymore has inspired me to get my rear in gear. (I came to the realization that my choices were relatively simple; start exercising or buy clothes in a larger size. Oh wow.) Another problem is age, I think. I am now 38 years old, and those pounds just don't melt away like they used to!
Needless to say, I have chosen to combine an exercise routine with better eating habits. I saw the Richard Simmons "Sweatin' to the Oldies" video tape, and thought why not? I love oldies music, first of all. Second, the kids get a kick out of doing the routines with me. And third, Richard Simmons does reasonable routines that are easy to pick up. I have other exercise videos that boast incredibly complicated routines that are next to impossible to figure out, so Richard is definitely the leader in this department!
The main thing with any exercise program is that you do it! Since I love music and I enjoy watching TV, this video seems to combine all the necessary elements for me to actually engage in this activity. (My doctor will be astounded as he knows how anti-exercise I am!)
The video contains many songs that will spark memories for people in my age group. What could be better than exercising to the classic songs like "Respect", "Jailhouse Rock", "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Oh, Pretty Woman", "Summer in the City", "My Boyfriend's Back", "Breakin' Up is Hard to Do", "Fever", "Windy", "Rescue Me," and the timeless "Locomotion"? Just listening to the music alone is enough to get you off your feet and rocking to the beat.
Frankly, I feel like a fool when I exercise. It doesn't help when my kids sit and watch me with grins on their face and laughter hidden behind their hands. My husband will cruise into the room occasionally, long enough to laugh at me and then leave. This reaction from the people I love doesn't help my commitment to exercise much, but eventually they too get caught up in the music and join in. The kids actually love doing exercise videos with me, and in this day and age of juvenile couch potatoes I figure this is a good thing! On the plus side, I can relax knowing that Richard looks just as funny as I do!
You won't be disappointed in this Richard Simmons video. The music alone is a reason to purchase it, and the benefits of exercise that come with rocking to the beat with this video are immeasurable. Sweatin' to the Oldies is well worth the purchase price. Here's to better health and a toned body!
