Author's Review
Let me preface this by saying I hate to work out. I have never been an athletic person, and avoided any kind of sport whenever I could. The only "athletic" thing I was involved in in high school was cheerleading, which I loved, but when I was involved in it, it wasn't athletic like it is today.
When I was younger, I was maybe 10 pounds overweight, nothing too serious; but after having 3 kids, my weight is definitely not where I would like it to be. I've tried lots of things. 5 years ago, I bought a Nordic Track, and lost 26 pounds, but after reaching my goal weight, I got pregnant again (imagine that!), and of course, after I had my baby, my weight was right back up there where it was to begin with. I tried the Nordic Track again, but couldn't stick with it, and I've tried every exercise video imaginable, but they were all so "athletic", and I got bored with them very quickly.
I had always wanted to try the Richard Simmons tapes, because I like oldies music, and Richard is so funny and likeable. So, finally I gave in and bought one, and found that it was just what I had been looking for. I didn't even feel like I was working out. I felt like I was just dancing. The music was great! The second half of the tape is devoted to light strength training, or toning. There is an abs workout, some leg lifts, and then a workout for your arms using light weights. This gave me a feeling of accomplishment, because it was actually something I could do without too much trouble (but enough to know that it was beneficial to my body!).
I lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks. I was careful about what I ate, but I know that the combination of eating right and working out regularly was the key. That was about a month ago. Things have been kind of hectic lately. We re-did our basement, and are getting ready to go tent-camping for the first time, so I haven't had time to do the tape like I would like to, but I definitely will get back with it. It's the only workout I've ever done that I actually looked forward to!
