Product Review

Espresso? NOT!

by   stelliger ,   Jul 5, 2007

Pros:  Aesthetic design, retractable cord

Cons:  NO FINE grind, clogging, noise, inconsistent grind, bad timer

The Bottom Line:  It's pretty sitting on your counter and might make a nice paperweight. Just don't expect an espresso grind out of it.

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

When I received this grinder, I was initially impressed with features like the retractable cord, the appearance and the overall design for the price. It did not have the feel of a quality unit per se but it seemed in line with the price.

THEN - I tried to produce espresso. What I got was a grind similar to a "7" or "8" on my old $60 Capresso (with "9" being the coarsest). The grind was also irregular with some powder present. It clogged on the first use and required cleaning.

The alphabetically labeled timer was very frustrating since it begins timing while still turning the dial and once started, the timer cannot be stopped without forcing the dial (which I would not recommend)

DeLonghi "Customer Support" was of no help, only telling me that the product is out of warranty (I had asked if there were any adjustments, parts or known issues pertaining to this grinder). Upon explaining what I was asking they merely stated "nothing is available". Their tone was very dismissive.

It is unfortunate that DeLonghi apparently put more effort into superfluous extras like the retractable cord than the quality of the grinding mechanism.

This grinder could only be recommended for drip machines when the quality of the grind is less important than how it looks sitting on your counter.
