Heavy Hitting!

"Requiem for a Heavy Weight" is a wonderful, gritty, and brutal look into the underbelly of the Boxing profession. Anthony Quinn portray a down and out Boxer in the twilight of his less than successful career. Jackie Gleason and Mickey Rooney manage and train this boxer. When Quinn feels like it is time for him to retire, he learns he has no skills or abilities except those in boxing. His manager convinces him to continue boxing and to take dives for the money.

This was a fabulous movie and almost too real to watch at times. It was brutal and painful to see this aging boxer decline. Quinn was incredible in this role and the Academy awarded him for his performance.

This was a wonderful character study which takes you into the mind and soul of this boxer. If you are expecting a happy ending, you will be disappointed. But if you are expecting a grand film experience with outstanding performances you will be pleased. This was a great film and a must see for all film lovers.
