Aloha Breeze Tower Fan - Great For My Kids Rooms!

Contrary to popular belief, it does get hot in the mountains of New Hampshire. Although it’s not quite hot enough for me to require air conditioning in my bedroom at night, the recent heat-wave made me decide that yes, fans would help. The problem wasn’t that it didn’t get cool at night, but getting the cooler air into my hotter house.

The last fans left at our local Wal-Mart were the Aloha Breeze Tower Fans. I purchased three of them. I was a little unsure of whether a tower model could provide the cooling that I wanted as I was used to the old days of those big box fans in my window at night in the days before air conditioning, and that was what I’d had in mind when I set out on my quest.

One of the fans was for my bedroom, and two were for my kids rooms. One of the things I did like about the Aloha Breeze Tower Fan on sight was that the slots in the front of the fan are small enough that my kids (youngest is six) can’t get their fingers in. I can’t imagine anyone except for the smallest baby being able to get their fingers inside the fan, and short of putting the fan in the crib with them, there’s no way for them to reach it. What’s spinning inside to create the breeze from the fan is also made of plastic, rather than metal like those old box fans I used to have in my window as a child (how did we ever survive?)

I brought the fans home and assembled them with minimal headaches. The two pieces of the base need to be put together and screwed into the fan, and then the power cord runs through the base so as not to interfere with the fan staying steady.

We have fairly wide windowsills on the interior of our home, and the Aloha Breeze Tower Fan sits perfectly on them. I could not have said this about the windowsills I had in New York, so your mileage might vary in this respect. You’d need about nine inches of space on the windowsill.

The Aloha Breeze Tower Fan has three speeds: LOW, MEDIUM, and HIGH. It can oscillate 180° or stay still. I like the oscillating because I have it in my windowsill drawing air in across my bed and this way I don’t have the air beating on one spot all night long. It also circulates the air in the room much better when oscillating.

I’ve found it most comfortable on MEDIUM although I did have it on HIGH a couple of those really hot nights. At MEDIUM it feels like a gentle ocean breeze blowing through my window. HIGH is a bit stronger and I just am more comfortable with a light breeze at night. During those hot days though, when it got to 90 in the mountains, using the HIGH setting when I moved the Aloha Breeze Tower Fan from my bedroom to my living room kept me somewhat comfortable.

I do think the HIGH setting isn’t as strong as that setting in other fan’s I’ve experienced. However, I like a fan that I don’t feel like I am getting blown away when I go past it. Other people might find the HIGH setting not good enough for them, but it was fine for me.

I’ve found the Aloha Breeze Tower Fan to be fairly durable. Two of them are in each of my kids’ bedrooms. They have knocked them around a bit and nothing has broken yet. Even with their more frequent uses of the OFF button there haven’t been any problems at all with the fans. It was something I was really worried about, but with the Wal-Mart here bringing in winter coats already, I didn’t have a real choice in what fan to buy for their room. Maybe this year I’ll shop for one in March.

The surface of the Aloha Breeze Tower Fan is smooth plastic and wipes clean with a damp cloth. I haven’t seen it gathering dust either on the inside or outside, so I am not that worried about keeping it clean. That’s even with the dusty dirt roads we have in these parts.

I also noticed that these fans were featured on a local news station when a woman purchased them from a Wal-Mart to donate to local senior citizens who were stuck inside during the heat in some of the larger cities down south. I hope they had a positive experience with them as well.

I had reservations about purchasing a tower model fan, but have found that it performed fine for my needs. I will probably take a second look at fans next spring, just to be sure I have enough to deal with the hot weather, but overall I am pleased with the Aloha Breeze Tower Fan this summer.
