Author's Review
I decided on the Reliable J410 despite the fact there were NO customer reviews available prior to purchase, because: one seller listed it having higher bar pressure than comparable Rowenta (said 4.5 I think), it was much better looking than Rowenta (and who wants an expensive DOG!), and I was replacing a Rowenta (because its tank finally cracked) purchased as top of line (last option before gravity feed) 25 years ago that I was NEVER pleased by. I was right to be angry with that Rowenta and encourage others to follow my happy decision. I can finally achieve really satisfying and enduring flatness! I do tailor but havent had time to test this so far (steaming wool into shapes and shoulder-seams ripple-free), nor have I any linen available to test the highest temperature setting, nevertheless: its got a heavy metal tank and cap threads fortelling pressure build; setting it to blast steam continuously at my huge sink from several feet away it did so relentlessly for a hell of a long time (maybe 10 minutes? Maybe lots more? I was watching boob tube) with a hell of a lot of steam (REALLY!) I wish I had this when I was peeling the wallpaper! I dont know if its higher or more even soleplate heat than Im used to, all I can say is that ironing the target to dry, it really gets and stays in the press I am trying to achieve. I ironed ancient Fogal Swiss hose (15 denier? flabby with age!) without snagging or burning them. Though manufacturer conservatively advises youre more likely to get spitting with low iron temperature, I ironed silk lingerie including steam with care avoided water burps. Steaming/ironing any natural fiber knits produces excellent results. Ironing is great now, and the stuff STAYS looking flat. I did not purchase a Teflon soleplate as I cant breathe that stuff. The box and instruction manual accompanying my J410 say 3.5 bar pressure which is LESS than I see on US seller listings (this is a Canadian product which appears to require sending back there for repairs). Manufacturer includes a couple packets of sulphamic acid iron cleaner I havent tested because iron isnt dirty yet (manufacturer says 1-2 a year). Depending on mood it may take 5-7 minutes for appliance to ready itself for work, and the tank stays warm long after. Contemplating this purchase, I was concerned that this foreign product wouldnt fly here, might need repair and I wouldnt be able to find it, and Id be stuck for an expensive exotic appliance adventure. Ive been enjoying this iron for about 8 weeks now and believe this is a terrific product, and my impression is Reliable is a really civilized company and it, they and we deserve for this fine product to establish itself here. This is a solid appliance providing solid performance.
