Author's Review
Redbook is another magazine that I cannot live without.
I know, I'm a magazine junkie, but this one is a keeper.
I have been subscribing to it for a few years now and
it's one of my favorite magazines to curl up on the sofa
and drink hot tea with. The magazine is generally geared
to younger working women, which is perfect for me.
I don't find this publication to be as homey as Family
Circle, First for Women, or Women's Day. I enjoy that
70% of Redbook is not about recipes and diaper consumer
reports. I find it to be a good mix between a magazine
for the home and one for beauty and relationships. That
is the perfect mix for me as a young married adult with
no kids.
Usually there is a celebrity on the cover, which doesn't
hurt since they are usually strong beautiful women. The
articles and interviews with them are well written
and inspirational.
Each Redbook issue usually has a theme. This month it's
stress-busting ideas throughout the magazine. The different
Redbook sections are: love and marriage, health and fitness,
beauty, fashion, style, celebrities, news and features,
kids, food, and in every issue. There are many articles
about careers and smart handling of your finances.
The magazine is very realistic and doesn't convey the image
that most women are to stay at home, dress in sweats, and
have no ambitions. Redbook also doesn't promote the need
to look like a model or be bone thin. I sadly find many
women's magazines to be like that.
There are always good articles on health issues that concern
women. Such as things to ask at the doctors, or things to
look for that are signs of cancer. The features are very
informative and Redbook leaves out all the fluff, such as
fad diets. The articles on fitness and health are helpful
since they usually have pictures of the specific moves and
detailed directions. This is much more useful than magazines
that say 'do squats', but never show you how.
The fashion and beauty items that Redbook features are
down to earth and used by real women. I would actually
wear the clothes modeled in the magazine and that is
saying a lot for a women's magazine. They have tips for
bodies in all shapes and sizes and encourage women to
work with what they have to create beauty and inner peace.
The beauty items they promote are affordable and realistic
for the busy woman.
There are always good articles on how to balance a busy
lifestyle and how to succeed at reaching your goals. A main
focus of this magazine is to be good to yourself and don't
put everyone and everything else first in your life. Make
yourself and your happiness a priority! That's my kind
of motto!
Some of the articles are plain silly and I skip right by
them. Such as an article on psychics and the monthly
horoscopes. They just don't fit in the this magazine.
That is the only negative I can find about Redbook.
Overall, I love this magazine and it's in my top 5 favorites.
I hope Redbook stays geared to young adult women who have
a busy life and need a good bit of pampering.
