Author's Review
I was reading up on the new Rainbow Six for the 360, and I really wanted to play it. I really enjoyed the original one for PC since it did involve some tactics, so I got Lockdown for the PS2, got some Slim Jims, went to a friend's house and tried to play co-op. Let's say that I was pretty disappointed.
First of all, this game discriminates against inverted players. You create "profiles" to set up your game. But you can't use two different profiles for co-op, so this means the "profiles" are actually just save files. So you and your buddy are either going to use both normal or both inverted controls, and since I play inverted and my friend doesn't, this really sucked.
I should've known then that this game would blow, but I decided to be a big boy and play normal. There are no CPU teammates, just you and your friend. And there are no squad tactics involved; it's just your run-of-the-mill shoot 'em up. Not too much fun, especially since I SUCK without inverted controls, but I was ready to play another level, since I had nothing better to do, but guess what? You have to unlock the levels in single-player to play them in co-op. Lame!
So I went to my Fortress of Solitude and sat and thought and pondered and mulled. Did I want to play this game? The AI was pretty terrible in co-op. Sometimes you can just run up to them and watch them miss you time after time. Sometimes the terrorists just run right past you. Sometimes if you shoot a terrorist, their buddies will just watch. And yet sometimes they just kill you with a headshot out of nowhere. Basically, the AI is crazy inconsistent, and most of the time it's just bad. And it wasn't a tactical shooter at all...the enemies pretty much just run right up to you, asking to be shot.
I read some stuff online and read how the game actually makes your character take MORE damage if you take cover. And how sometimes it takes them 20 seconds or so to kill you if you run right up next to them and don't do anything. All this information definitely made sense to me, considering what I had seen in the game.
So I really just played this game for an hour or two, but I definitely had enough to realize that this game isn't worth the time. Not to mention the quite lackluster graphics that could've been made 5 years ago or so. Rainbow Six: Lockdown just screams, "LACK OF EFFORT!" Definitely avoid.
Sorry I couldn't play some single-player to get a better feel of the game, but I'm no masochist, man.
