Sam Raimi's delicious Western-Movie-Cliché Soup!

Date of Review:  Mar 25, 2001
The Bottom Line: Regardless, this movie is grade-A prime fun for hardcore Western freaks, fans of way macho dialogue or those of us who just love them groovy camera tricks.
Review: I hate when movie critics defend movies they enjoy by dengrating the intelligence or cinematic knowledge of those people who disagree with them. Having said that, I feel that Sam Raimi's 'The Quick and the Dead' is an unjustly underrated...

The Quick and The Dead

Date of Review:  Aug 11, 2000
Review: Borrowing a page from Louis L? Amour?s book, the title of this 1994 western refers to the two types of gunfighters in the world.

Basically, you can either be fast on the draw, or you can go join the Grand Rodeo in the Sky.

In a...

Another Lone Gunslinger Tale ? with a Twist

Date of Review:  Apr 19, 2006
The Bottom Line: Nice modern twist on an old cliched western myth, coupled with good acting, make this a fun watch.
Review:
I thought that 'The Quick and the Dead' was just another corny western chock-full of cliches. Seeing that Russell Crowe was in the cast piqued my curiosity, and I decided I'd see it anyway.

Well, the film, indeed, had more than a...

Raimi's Western Homage: 1995's The Quick and the Dead

Date of Review:  Dec 7, 2009
The Bottom Line: It may not be original, but that's not its purpose: it's a great Western genre film that's fun and is a forgotten gem from the nineties.
Review: What do you get when you mix equal parts of the director in charge of the Evil Dead trilogy, Russell Crowe and Sharon Stone, and a young man with the promise of a rose and a ship in his future in a zany Wild West setting? You might get 1995's The...

The Dull and the Deadly

Date of Review:  Oct 29, 2000
The Bottom Line: The Quick and the Dead? Nothing quick enough about this.
Review: The Quick and The Dead  has a huge amount of star power - Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Leonardo DeCaprio, and Russell Crowe to name but a few. The whole story takes place in a stereotypical movie western time. This is the place where the gunfights...

Retribution and Redemption

Date of Review:  Aug 3, 2004
The Bottom Line: Even people who don't care for horse operas will enjoy this surreal struggle of good vs evil in the wild west.
Review: THE QUICK AND THE DEAD (1995) with Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe, and Leonardo DiCaprio, has the same name but a very different story from a Louis L'Amour novel and a Sam Elliot - Kate Capshaw movie based on it. I mention that to spare...

A gunfighting tournament becomes a vehicle for one woman's righteous vengeance.

Date of Review:  Aug 2, 2008
The Bottom Line: "The Quick and the Dead" is a well-executed and particularly well-acted movie that is well worth watching.
Review: Although set in the Old West, "The Quick and the Dead" is very close in spirit to martial arts tournament movies like "Bloodsport" and "Enter the Dragon." If you're a fan of the genre, you'll quickly recognize some plot elements very common in films...

Fun Despite Sharon Stone

Date of Review:  Oct 2, 2000
Review: Did any of you catch The Quick and the Dead on TNT the other night? TNT billed it as "a new classic". You notice how everything's a classic these days? It's becoming quite common. If you're not a classic, you're almost not worth watching. Problem...

Wait a minute!

Date of Review:  Jul 14, 2000
Review: I love westerns...all types, sizes, shapes or colors(or B&W). I also love to read westerns, and Louis L'Amour is my favorite author. So I sent my wife out to buy "The Quick and the Dead", a wonderful, brilliant book by L'Amour. Well...she came home...

Be Quick--Or Be Dead!

Date of Review:  Jun 1, 2000
